Game. State - The Shape of the MMO Landscape - part I

Recently I have been exploring options beyond the Worlds of Warcraftz. I have dabbled in Internet Spaceships and now World of Warhammer Online. All of which got me thinking about the MMO industry; where it’s come from and where it’s going.

It’s nice to finally get to this article. The Commodore 64 article was a lot tougher to write, this is like candy in comparison.

C64 BASIC: #3 (Graphics)

Category: Gaming By: Don Holmberg

The Commodore graphic modes have more in common with the Atari computers than anything else. While the Commodore machines were developed independently, they were also designed to directly compete with the Atari machines in the exact same market niche. As the graphics and sound chips were being developed, they kept in mind that they had to be at least as good as Atari, if not better.

Apple BASIC: #3 (Graphics)

This is an easy one. Apple graphics may be primitive compared to the Atari and Commodore machines, but there are fairly full graphics commands available to the user.

Atari BASIC: #3 (Graphics)

Category: Gaming By: Don Holmberg

To be honest, I’ve been putting off writing this installment, simply because it is going to be a lot of work for me. The Atari, Commodore and Apple machines all have graphics capabilities, but each of them have very different ways of actually doing it.

Half-Lives and Portals

After seeing this video linked on ShackNews, I got thinking about Half-Life, which is definitely one of my favourite videogame series of all time.

Then I got thinking about Portal, the Valve side-project that became a cult-hit. Without ruining the story too much (and if you haven’t played Portal, you really owe it to yourself to do so), I will say that there is definite possibility of the two series converging in Half-Life 2: Episode 3.
